Sunset Park Townhouse

For this 19th Century townhouse, we worked with the clients to imagine how to return the aging building to its former beauty while modernizing the spaces inside. On the front facade, new cedar planks and hand-carved details recreate the original design in three shades of blue. Walnut cabinetry and a custom stainless steel island support a professional-grade kitchen that overlooks the rear yard. The new wood and steel deck sits beneath a renovated rear facade.

Throughout, the refinished and repainted staircase connects the floors, displaying sculpted detail at each landing. Hand-made tile and select marble slabs bring clean, bright finishes to the bathrooms and powder room. At the top floor, a single open space fills with light, and the clawfoot tub shines under a new skylight. A sixteen-panel solar array allows a fully-electric house to be green-powered.
